Intensive Slovene Weeks

intenz_tedni

We organise Intensive Slovene Language Weeks (a 30-hour course) for pupils of Slovenian and bilingual schools and for those who attend Slovene lessons in neighbouring countries and further afield. This course provides an important supplement to the Slovene that pupils learn in the countries they live in. In agreement with their schools, we focus on helping them at beginners or advanced level or with intensive preparations for secondary school-leaving examinations, literature classes, conversation classes etc. In the afternoons following language lessons, the pupils discover the cultural attractions of the Slovenian capital. The first Intensive Slovene Language Week was organised in 2007 for pupils from Austrian Carinthia and since 2009 similar weeks have been regularly organised also for pupils from Porabje (Hungary).

  • Program of the course

There will be 6 hours of lessons every day in which the participants will develop all four language skills: speaking, writing, reading and listening. Lessons will be split into two parts: we will begin at 9.00 and have lunch at 12.30, then we will continue with lessons until 15.30 (on Friday we finish with lunch). Participants will learn Slovene in small groups (maximum 12 pupils), which will be formed on the basis of their prior knowledge of Slovene. This will be verified before the beginning of the course by means of a short test, which we will send out to the different schools. The lessons will be given by experienced teachers from the Centre for Slovene.

The cost of a 28-hour course is 200 EUR per person (the price is fixed, the invoice for the whole group is issued by the Centre for Slovene as a Second/Foreign Language). The course is held if at least 8 pupils enrol in it.

  • Afternoon program

In accordance with the wishes of the home teacher or school we can organise different activities in the afternoon, for example:

    • guided tour of Ljubljana
    • visit to Ljubljana Castle
    • visit to the zoo
    • Atlantis aqua-park
    • cinema
    • visit to the House of Experiments
    • visit to Plečnik’s house in Trnovo
    • visit to the Botanical Garden
    • ascent of Šmarna Gora, Rožnik, Golovec

or other activities proposed by the teacher.

Cost of bus travel in Ljubljana: 1.20 EUR per trip with the Urbana card (we can provide them).

Depending on the choice of afternoon program, the number of bus journeys and the hotel chosen, the cost of the week excluding tuition amounts to between 160 and 200 EUR, and between 360 and 400 EUR including tuition. The fee for the course (200 EUR) is paid to the Centre for Slovene while other expenses (accommodation, food, accompanying program etc) are paid directly to the providers of these services.

  • Accommodation and food

Accommodation is usually provided in reasonably-priced hotels in Ljubljana (e.g. Hotel Bit, Hotel Emonec, Hostel Park), as well as in halls of residence if there is room. Therefore the cost per night with breakfast varies (between 20 and 25 EUR per person/night). A more favourable price can be obtained if the reservation is made well in advance.

Lunches will be taken in the vicinity of the school where the lessons will take place, while the venue for suppers will depend on the afternoon program. The cost of one lunch will be between 5 and 7 EUR, as will be the cost of suppers.
