Simpozij OBDOBJA 42 FRANK WOLLMAN – ZGODOVINAR SLOVENSKE IN BOLGARSKE DRAMATIKE: KAKO SMO VIDETI OD ZUNAJ? Frank Wollman, slovenska dramatika, bolgarska dramatika, tuji pogled, prevod This article presents a hermeneutic interpretation of the four-volume scholarly opus of Frank Wollman (1888–1969) dedicated to the dramaturgy of the South Slavs. Similarities and differences between Slovenians and Bulgarians, seen from an outsider’s point of view in the semiotic ifeld of drama and theater, stand out. Although the attention with which such a noted scholar devotedly and conscientiously laid the foundations of the study of drama in these countries can be a point of pride, his effort also raises a number of questions. Starting from the fact that the volume on Slovenian drama is the only one that has been translated into the language of the country it talks about, and that the Bulgarian one is being prepared for publication only now, and that the volume on Serbo-Croatian drama has not been published in either Serbia or Croatia, the authors take issue with the goals of these valuable studies by Wollman. The structure (an analytical/descriptive approach) is examined to determine the genre and thus the purpose of these texts. Who do they serve, are they still relevant, and how can they be used? Overall, the article addresses the dimensions of information, (general) culture, and science, and how and to what extent they ift together.
