{"id":54,"date":"2015-11-30T08:37:26","date_gmt":"2015-11-30T07:37:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centerslo.si\/en\/?page_id=54"},"modified":"2025-05-06T12:43:52","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T10:43:52","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/centerslo.si\/en\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About us"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>About us<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Centre for Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language (CSDTJ) is the leading international institution dedicated to the comprehensive study and promotion of Slovene as a second and foreign language.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It operates within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ff.uni-lj.si\/studij\/oddelki\/oddelek-za-slovenistiko\">Department of Slovene Studies<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ff.uni-lj.si\/en\">University of Ljubljana\u2019s Faculty of Arts<\/a>. It was established in 1992, and its oldest component, the Seminar of Slovene Language, Literature, and Culture, goes back to 1965.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The centre is an educational, research, development, and consulting organisation. Through its diverse activities, it maintains ongoing contact with users from various parts of the world, ranging from children, adolescents, and university students to adults that use Slovene as a second or foreign language or engage with it professionally or in other ways. Specifically, it:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Conducts research<\/strong> on Slovene as a second and foreign language;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Develops methodologies<\/strong> for its teaching and testing;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Teaches Slovene<\/strong> in Slovenia and at universities around the world and also conducts testing;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Provides training for teachers<\/strong> of Slovene as a second and foreign language and examiners;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Connects<\/strong> Slovene language specialists worldwide;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Holds conferences and cultural events<\/strong> in Slovenia and at universities across the globe;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepares and publishes teaching materials<\/strong>, guidelines, and curricula, and produces scholarly publications;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Advises<\/strong> various institutions and decision-makers in Slovenia and abroad;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Participates<\/strong> in the international Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) and national working groups and professional committees for developing systemic solutions related to Slovene as a second and foreign language;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Manages and implements<\/strong> Slovene and international <strong>projects<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The centre\u2019s activities are of national importance. They are carried out in accordance with the officially recognised programme of Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language. These activities are cofinanced by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.si\/en\/state-authorities\/ministries\/ministry-of-higher-education-science-and-innovation\/\">Slovene Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation<\/a> (and through it, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-lj.si\/en\">University of Ljubljana<\/a>), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.si\/en\/state-authorities\/government-offices\/government-office-for-slovenians-abroad\/\">Slovene Ministry of Education, the Government Office for Slovenes Abroad<\/a>, and other institutions.
